Maurecourt 2025 La Visite

In May 19 members of the Brundall Twinning Association made the trip over to Maurecourt to stay with host families in France. It was great to see old friends, and of course to meet new friends with several people taking part for the first time.

The weekend kicked off on the Friday with a Boules, or Pétanque, competition held on the pitches at the Espace Blondeau in Maurecourt. There were several closely contested games and a delicious cold buffet lunch provided by the local butchers shop. The action finished late afternoon with time to relax before a concert in the evening. The Beatles Revisited was a unique jazz based take on the Beatles classic songs, showcasing some skilled musicianship.

Saturday was spent with host families, with some enjoying a visit to Paris to see the Notre Dame, others enjoying family days out in the countryside or even just exploring there local markets and towns before relaxing in the garden. In the evening we all enjoyed a superb dinner at the Jardins de la Vielle Fontaine (Gardens of the Old Fountain) restaurant in Maisons-Laffitte.

On Sunday there was an outing to the France Miniature park, so much more than a model village this site is amazingly well designed and thought out. The overall park area is the shape of France, with water bordering it to form the oceans. A cunningly thought out trail leads you through over 100 detailed models of iconic French buildings and landmarks. Along with rides and activities for children, there are also model railways running throughout the scenery to add to the atmosphere. The day included a picnic lunch and many photographs before we all returned to the Village Hall for a farewell friendship drink with speeches and gift presentations.

Monday saw us take the trip home via the inevitable hypermarket, with a civilised crossing from Calais and a hot meal included. Another thoroughly enjoyable weekend with our friends in France!
